PTK Fact Sheet
- PTK is a Filipino combat system centered around the blade.
- Pekiti Tirsia roughly translates into "close quarters". The strategy of quartering uses footwork and triangulation to move to an attack position while simultaneously preventing the opponent from attacking. Mobility and footwork are hallmarks of the system.
- Kali is the ancient blade art of the Philippines. The term Kali is believed to have been derived from 'Kalis' (Tagalog) or 'bladed weapon'.
- PTK is the chosen Close Quarter Blade and Impact Weapon combat methodology of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) with Grand Tuhon Gaje as the Training Director.
- PTK as an official system was founded in 1897. The 112th Anniversery was recently celebrated in Bacolod in April 2009.
- Practitioners are trained to concern themselves with offense and counter-offense. Action is faster then reaction. The best defense is what? a good offense. The overriding strategy is to attack and quarter the opponent.
- The art is designed for multiple armed opponents.
- The weapons categories of PTK include:
- Single Kalis (or baston)
- Doble Kalis (or baston)
- Espada y Daga (sword or stick and dagger)
- Malayu Sibat (staff/spear)
- Single daga
- Doble daga
- Empty hands (Pangamut/Dumog)
- Flexible/projectile weapons
- Modern firearms
- Dan Insanto on PTK: "When it comes to strategic knife defenses, Pekiti Tirsia Kali is one of the most progressive, useful, and sophisticated systems I have ever encountered."
